The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy

The Jesus and Mary Chain are a Scottish band that revolves around the songwriting partnership of brothers Jim Reid and William Reid. From East Kilbride, Glasgow, Scotland , the JAMC released a constant string of albums, singles and EPs until their demise in 1998. The band reunited in 2007.

The initial line-up, formed in 1984, was augmented by bassist Douglas Hart and drummer Bobby Gillespie. Gillespie played standing up in the manner of The Velvet Underground’s Maureen “Moe” Tucker.

The Mary Chain’s early gigs have become the stuff of legend in underground circles. Playing in front of small audiences, the Mary Chain earned their notoriety by playing very short gigs, some lasting no more than 10 minutes and consisting of a constant wall of feedback and distortion, as well as playing with their backs to the audience and refusing to speak to them.

Ikuinen Kaamos - Fall Of Icons

Ikuinen Kaamos are a metal band from Joensuu, Finland. Formed in 1997, they released four demos in the years 1997 - 2004 which are mainly directed to the underground black metal scene. The bands current style begins to take shape in the later demos as Ikuinen Kaamos start to soak up influences from death, doom and progressive metal.

In 2005, Ikuinen Kaamos signed a record deal with the Dutch label Descent Productions and as a result, release their debut album “The Forlorn” in 2006. It is an ambitious release that captures the passion and creativity of Ikuinen Kaamos. The lyrical concept is based upon the story of an old man who murdered his wife and child decades ago, and who now struggles with faith and guilt. Spiraling riffs and progressive rhythms alternating from high-speed passages to acoustic interludes merge with a sepulchral voice to drown the listener deeper and deeper into a timeless emotional abyss. “The Forlorn” is a unique album that captivates from the beginning to the end.

In 2007, Ikuinen Kaamos record their sophomore album which is due to be released in January 2008. After repeated delays in releasing the album, their old label informs the band of their eventual inability to release it due to financial issues. Fed up and tired of letting their impatient fans wait for new musical outputs, the band decides to release three songs from the album as a free downloadable EP entitled “Closure”. It incorporates more progressive elements while maintaining the utterly melancholic atmosphere for which Ikuinen Kaamos are known for. The EP introduces clean vocals which support a wider range of extreme vocals in their lament.

Grey Waters - Below The Ever Setting Sun

Grey Waters was formed by D. in 2006 originally as a solo project, however it was soon decided that other input should be incorporated to complete the vision in mind; thus saw Tim enter the band. Some rough recordings were made in 2006/2007 but were deemed unsatisfactory for release, and unfortunately what was then to proceed was years of constant delays and problems, which saw many songs re-written, re-re-written & eventually totally scraped all together.

In 2009 new songs were written and with much more determination present from D. to get Grey Waters up and running properly without any compromises. This determination finally paid off and after 3 years of silence Grey Waters finally entered the studio in mid-July 2009 which resulted in the debut EP titled “Below The Ever Setting Sun” released via Eisenwald in February 22nd 2010. The band now has it’s focus on a full-length recording, with the aim for completion in 2010.

Polvo - Today's Active Lifestyles

Polvo is an influential indie noise rock band of the 1990s from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA. The band was fronted by guitarists/vocalists Ash Bowie and Dave Brylawski. Eddie Watkins played drums, and Steve Popson played bass guitar. The band reformed in 2008 with Brian Quast assuming drum duties.

Polvo are considered by some to be one of the key proponents of a genre which came to be known as math rock, although in interviews the band disavowed that categorization. Their sound was defined by complex and dissonant guitar harmonies and driving rhythm, complementing cryptic, often surrealist lyrics. Their sound was so unpredictable and angular that the band’s guitarists were often accused of failing to play with correctly tuned guitars. Polvo’s songs and artwork frequently featured Asian/”exotic” themes and references. The band’s name means “dust” in Spanish.

Indie-noise rock from the 90's would fit this band better then just the term indie rock. Enjoy!

Ghosts of Breslau - Peste

Breslau was the German name of Wroclaw, a city in southwestern Poland, Lower Silesia. Since the beginnig Wroclaw was multicultural town, where Poles, Germans, Czechs, Jews and many more nations lived together - sometimes peacefully, sometimes not. Throughout history Wroclaw was Polish, German, Czech and Austrian. The influences of all cultures are still visible. The 20th century and especially the events of both World Wars left strong marks in the spirit of this city. Ghosts of the past are still present here. Ghosts of Breslau. In their music GoB try to capture the unique soul of this city and madness of the totalitarian ideologies.

Defeatist - Sixth Extinction

Defeatist is a New York City, NY-based grindcore band formed from the ashes of technical metal acts Kalibas & Anodyne who play a notably less refined, yet significantly more vital & abrasive brand of grind-punk. Vocalist Aaron Nichols describes the group as “three cranky old dudes who spend their free time playing blast beats in a room that smells like a dead bum’s ass.”

Defeatist play raw, angry, socially & politically aware crust-tinged grindcore in the vein of latter-wave grind acts like Discordance Axis, Kill the Client and later-era Insect Warfare.

At present, the band has released 3 EPs (the Mechanisms of Sanctimonious Filth split w/ KURSK, the In Praise of False Hope EP, and the Thanatonic State EP, all released in 2007), with scheduling & finances prohibiting more prolific recording. Willowtip Records has agreed to release a full-length from the band, which is being recorded with producer/engineer Colin Marston.

Scott Walker - The Drift

Scott Walker (Noel Scott Engel) is an American singer who has lived and worked in England since 1965. Originally discovered by Eddie Fisher and cast as a late-50s teen idol under his real name, he formed The Walker Brothers in the early ’60s and performed Phil Spector-influenced ballads. In 1967 the band broke up and Scott (taking the band’s name for his own) began a solo career. His heavily orchestrated versions of songs by Jacques Brel and others, delivered in a crooning style, became immensely popular in Britain and continental Europe. Since the 1970s his output has been sporadic, first touching on country and MOR sounds, then briefly rejoining The Walker Brothers, before heading off into experimental music, yet continuing critical respect to the present day.

His albums “Tilt” and “the Drift”, differ a lot from his earlier work.
His current artistic direction is extremely avant-garde and has been described as the “sound of nightmares”.

Try playing “Paper Doll,” from Looking Back, and “The Escape” from The Drift, with headphones and liner notes. Then decide how different they are.

His musical evolution is examined in the acclaimed documentary film “Scott Walker - 30 Century Man” in which Scott gives a very candid interview about his creative process and allows access into the meat-punching and box-bashing recording sessions for 2006’s “The Drift.”

(Taken from Last.fm)

I discovered the music of Scott Walker through a good friend of mine. He came around one day and dropped "The Drift". After two, three times of listenning to it this record just exploded in my head. It's a mixture of avantgarde singer-songwriter parts and freak folk. Could be the soundtrack to a real nightmare when you just drunk to much and feel like you want to die. Enjoy this one.

Yeasayer - Odd Blood

Yeasayer (pronounced “yay-sayer” /’jeɪseɪ.ər/) is an experimental band based in Brooklyn, New York. Live performances sometimes include trippy, psychedelic visuals projected in the background.
The band members are Anand Wilder, Chris Keating, and Ira Wolf Tuton. They describe their music as “Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel”.

Yeasayer recently revealed in an interview with Pitchfork that they had finished their sophomore album and it would be released on February 9, 2010. On October 30th, 2009 Yeasayer revealed details for the first single release from “Odd Blood” entitled “Ambling Alp”. As of early December 2009 this album was leaked on the ‘net. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Yeasayer revealed that the album came out of a massive acid trip in New Zealand. Odd Blood is partially inspired by inventor Ray Kurzweil’s theory that computer intelligence will eventually supersede the human mind. Also, Peter Gabriel’s drummer Jerry Marotta helped record Odd Blood in an upstate New York studio packed with rare synths and percussion instruments from around the globe.

Tim Hecker - Radio Amor

Montreal producer Tim Hecker made his initial breakthrough as Jetone, but followed with some incredible ambient work attributed to his born name. This experimental ambient work, released by Alien8 sublabel Substractif beginning in late 2001 with Haunt Me Haunt Me, Do It Again, won much acclaim. It also familiarised listeners with the producer himself, and not just because it featured his real name rather than a moniker: Hecker’s self-titled work was much more personal than his Jetone recordings, its ideological characteristics reflecting his interests and its experimental slant similarly reflected his ambitions. For his self-titled recordings, Hecker drew inspiration from pop culture and showcased his ideas within dense collages of found sounds and computer-generated noise. The producer also performed live extensively.

As a graduate student studying digital acoustics and software, Hecker spent years dabbling with electronic music before finally debuting as Jetone in 2000 with Autumnumonia for Pitchcadet. The release interested Force Inc, which released Hecker’s next album as Jetone, Ultramarin, a year later. Following this popular release, he aligned himself with Alien8, an experimental label based in Montreal. He recorded Haunt Me Haunt Me, Do It Again for the label’s ambient sub-label, Substractif, and watched it inspire critical praise upon its release in late 2001. The album proved so successful that Substractif released a follow-up EP, My Love Is Rotten to the Core, less than a year later in hopes of building upon the lingering critical buzz surrounding Haunt Me. Hecker then recorded Radio Amor for Mille Plateaux, Force Inc’s experimental ambient sublabel, which released the album in April 2003.

Windmills by the Ocean - Windmills by the Ocean

Windmills by the Ocean is the title of a recently unearthed recording from August 2003, the sole output of Boston natives Mike Davis, Dave Dunbar, Brooke Gillespie, Bryant Clifford Meyer and Thos Niles. Since the project’s beginning and end, the creators have continued on in such bands as 27, ANODYNE, ISIS, and RED SPAROWES, but the relevancy of this intense recording can be most appreciated now, three years after it’s conception. The variety and depth to this (mostly) instrumental music documentation reaches far beyond those of any mere side-project, and the heavy-music genres are in dire need of something this refreshing.

These rock-based songs incorporate so many elements of “drone” the group could almost reside next to their celestial forefathers Sunn O))) and Earth, except with more melody… and drums. However, the usage of keyboard and electronic elements alongside several guitars make the album more comparable to Sigur Ros than Black Sabbath, but without compromising any of the heavy metal elements the members have become most-known for. The additional usage of improvisation and mild repetition allows the listener to relax into a slow headbang across five songs that each surpass the six-minute mark. But what makes this album most impressive is the triumphant, anthemic feel to it, especially considering the group never even made it to the live setting.

(Taken from Last.fm)
I stumbled over this gem again in the last days when I took a look at my records once again. A nice sidekick featuring members of ISIS. There are some drone elements, yeah, but it most likely sounds like a good mix of progressive sludge featuring post-rock. When you don't have that one allready give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Xasthur - 2005 Demo

Xasthur is an American one-man ambient black metal band formed in the cold and frostbitten land of Alhambra, California in 1995 by Scott Conner, who goes by the pseudonym “Malefic”. Although similar in terms of low-fi production and the wearing of corpse paint, musically and lyrically Xasthur’s focus is usually not on paganism, Satanism or anti-Christian blasphemy – as is common in the genre – but rather on astral projection, darkness, despair, suicide, hate, and death.

The first album Nocturnal Poisoning (recorded April-September 2001) was jointly released by independent record labels Blood Fire Death and Red Stream in 2002. Southern Lord Records re-released a remastered double-LP version in 2005. In the next years, Xasthur’s full-length albums were released through labels such as Displeased Records, Moribund Cult, Total Holocaust Records, Battle Kommand Records and Hydra Head Records. Apart from demo and EP recordings, Xasthur has released several split albums with other black metal acts such as Orosius, Acid Enema, Nachtmystium, Striborg, Angra Mainyu, Leviathan and Nortt.

Drudkh - The Swan Road (Lebedynyi Shlyath)

Drudkh, meaning “wood” in Sanskrit, is an atmospheric black metal band from Kharkiv, Ukraine formed in 2002 by Roman Saenko, the leading member of Hate Forest; Thurios, the leading member of Astrofaes; and Yuriy Sinitsky, of Lucifugum and Definition Sane. Their strongly folk-influenced music focuses on a strong atmosphere with a lot of feeling, and the lyrical contents embrace Slavic mythology, seasons and poetry. Many of the band’s lyrics are derived from the works of nineteenth- and twentieth-century Ukrainian poets, especially Taras Shevchenko.

“During all its history, the band followed a ‘no photos, no interviews, no website, no gigs’ policy, which was nobly accepted by DRUDKH’s new label Season of Mist. The absence of any comments or information from DRUDKH’s side gave an opening to a few ignorant internet warrior-fans to spread rumors, that the band embraces extreme political views. This is absolutely misleading and a total profanation, since there is nothing in DRUDKH’s music or lyrics that would suggest any political outlook. DRUDKH praise individualism, self-improvement and estrangement from modern values.” Roman Saenko (2008)

Kylie Minoise - Junky Erotica

Lea Cummings is a English musician and artist best known under the alias Kylie Minoise.

Born in September 1974 in Lancaster and currently based in Glasgow, Cummings was the bassist for hardcore rock trio Phobophilia for some years before forming Opaque in 1997. An ever changing unit with Cummings as the only constant, the unit built up an extensive discography, culminating with the release of the New Ways To Criticise CD in 2004 and a full European tour in July of that year. Their live performances could polarise opinion, with one particularly volatile show captured on the Live In Dundee 28.11.02 EP; an audience member disliked the group so much that he unplugged one of the amplifiers.

(Read the whole story at wikipedia)

Noise is a critical thing when it comes to music. Loads of noise fanatics love it for the structure and the chilling atmosphere that comes up when you listen to noise a couple of minutes. But more or less most people thing that noise is just a bunch of wildly and poor produced tunes rearrengend with a lot of distortion. Give this nice puppy of noise and drone a little spin and take a cup of noise. Maybe you will you like it.

Knapsack was a emo/indie rock band that was formed in 1993 by Blair Shehan (vocals/guitar) and Colby Mancasola (drums). Shehan and Mansacola were two high school friends studying at the University of California, Davis. Guitarist Jason Bokros and bassist Rod Meyer completed the lineup.

By 1994, the band had recorded a single for independent label Goldenrod Records and signed with Alias Records later that year. Their debut album Silver Sweepstakes was released in 1995. Killed by Malaise - Demo # 2

killed by malaise existed from 2001 - 2003. they released a split 7" with danse macabre on totenschiff records as well as a lp on totenschiff, meudiademorte and my237 records. the lp contains the song from the split 7" in another version plus four songs from this recording session made in august 2002. on the flipside are five older tracks, recorded in october 2001 (the song "eigenleben" appeared on the monocore recordings 10" sampler called "how to destroy yourself").
people did always tend to call the lp a discography but we truly didn't want to call it that way for a band that just released a split 7". we just wanted to release the other songs because they meant a lot to us and we didn't want to "waste" them.

people went on to play in bands such as louise cyphre, patterns, silver salts, empire cheese and epilogue.

I dug this band a few years ago. Even if they had split up for ages I really fell in love with the stuff. Screamo as good as it gets, with nice riffing and vocals. The production of this second demotape is all DIY so don't be afraid when the sound is raw and dirty.

Earthless - Rhythms From A Cosmic Sky

Earthless is the brainchild of Mario Rubalcaba, Mike Eginton and Isaiah Mitchell. Rubalcaba, a prolific drummer, has worn the alias of Ruby Mars during his stint with Rocket from the Crypt, went on to bang away for the Hot Snakes, was the drummer for hardcore art-punks Clikatat Ikatowi and previously was in the Black Heart Procession… and prior to that? Mario was a member of Tony Alva’s Alva Team skateboarding crew. He now finds himself, along with bassist Mike Eginton and guitarist Isaiah Mitchell, knee deep in the near opposite direction of all things punk rock, ensconced in the world of jam, space and “cosmic nodding” a.k.a. Earthless.

The trio, based out of San Diego, met through mutual friends and a fondness for under the radar record collections. Mario explains how the band connected, “We discovered a mutual admiration for a lot of Japanese psychedelic hard rock bands, as well as primitive ‘60s garage music. After combing over each other’s record collections and lending out records, we came upon the idea of, ‘Let’s specifically start a Japanese-psychedelic-heavy-Kraut-rock-band.’ With the Japanese bands, it was always a really kind of heavy, blues, twisted take on Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin. Isaiah is an awesome guitar player & Mike is an amazing bassist, playing with the both of them really sealed the deal. Magic happened in the room. Since then, we’ve followed that formula."

The 1st Demo "Grave Wax" should be finished tonight. im going to be putting together 10 of these by hand as the first pressing. may end up doing a few cassettes as well.
Artwork & Tracklisting will be announced shortly. for now you an hear most of the songs on the myspace.
Once war is released i will most likely be rearranging a few of the songs as well as finishing other ones for the 2nd DEMO/EP which will be titled "War in Heaven, Hell on Earth"
the production will be significantly better on "War in Heaven, Hell on Earth" as "Grave Wax" merely serves as a way to let these songs get a breath of rotten air, and of course to show the origins of this project.
I hope you enjoy, sit back, smoke a joint, throw some headphones on and let it wash over you...

This is the only written words I found on myspace directly coming from Stolas about his black metal project The Begotten. Grave Wax is his first demo which was free to download from myspace. It's a nice mix of diverse black metal styles and I guess this project could be really awesome in the future. Enjoy the demo!

Fuck Buttons is a two-piece experimental group based in London, England.

Formed in late 2004 and signed to the ATP label, releasing the “Bright Tomorrow” b/w “Little Bloody Shoulder” 7” single during the fall of 2007. They released their first album, Street Horrrsing, in 2008 and received widespread acclaim. A single, “Colours Move”, followed later that year.

Their second album ‘Tarot Sport’ was released October 12th (UK) / October 20th (USA) 2009.

“The album, ‘Tarot Sport’, is one of unbound possibility and lucid cohesion; a cerebral pilgrimage that refines, crafts, explores and develops the experimental aesthetic of last year’s critically acclaimed debut, ‘Street Horrrsing.’” -ATP

Dolcim - Guillotine Ride

As all screamo enthusiasts know, Dolcim contain two members that were in Cease Upon The Capitol, and the band formed pretty much as soon as CUTC broke up. I'm not a great fan of CUTC to be honest, I bought their records and I think I went through a period of thinking they were pretty great, but then I just got bored by them - they became below standard screamo to me. Even when I saw them at Trashfest a couple of years back I wasn't impressed. This is a pretty harsh start to the review, and I do still have their 7'' End Of History which I really like. But the point is that when I saw that Dolcim had formed I wasn't that bothered - I didn't expect much from them.

Fast forward a bit... when I finally got round to listening to them I was pleasantly surprised. And though it then still took me ages to get their demo, when I did a few weeks back I found it to be most fucking excellent. Three songs of awesome screamo still somewhat in the style of CUTC but new elements that made me enjoy it immensely. It's nothing out of the ordinary, but it is screamo done very well.

Borknagar - Universal

Borknagar is a band from Bergen, Norway founded in 1995 by Øystein Garnes Brun. The band began as a black/viking metal band and quickly adopted a more style after their first album.

As such, the band’s most known style would be that of , with most of their albums taking from this style. Borknagar’s lyrics often deal with philosophy, paganism, nature, and the cosmos. Øystein Brun stated once that the name was inspired by a Scottish legend about a man who climbed Lochnagar, a mountain in Scotland.

Borknagar rose out of the ashes of the Norwegian death metal band Molested when then-member Øystein G. Brun became tired of the brutal aspects of the band’s music. Øystein formed Borknagar to explore a more melodic outlet of expression; he wrote all of the music and lyrics and gathered together an all-star group of black metal musicians to play in his band. Well-known musicians of the black metal scene (such as Infernus of Gorgoroth, Grim of Immortal and Gorgoroth, Ivar Bjørnson from Enslaved, Garm of Ulver, Head Control System, and ex-Arcturus) joined the project, bringing immediate attention to Borknagar. The band never even recorded a demo – they simply asked for a record contract on Malicious Records and were granted their request. Borknagar’s majestic, melodic sound was instantly liked by many and received positive press attention.

new album is entitled "Belus" after the name of
the ancient European solar deity of light and
innocence. "Belus" is not a religious album or an
anti-religious album, nor is it a political one,
but an attempt to explore the myths about Belus
and unveil the oldest roots of our cultural
heritage. The album deals with the death of
Belus, his sombre journey through the realm of
death and his magnificent return. In essence the
album and the story of Belus is meant to be an
entertaining story about something that once upon
a time played a major role in the forming and
shaping of Europe.

"The album has been made according to my heart
and spirit, and not to fit into any particular
genre or category, or to live up to anyone's
obvious expectations". The music can best be
compared to the music of some of the old Burzum
albums; in particular the ground breaking "Hvis
Lyset Tar Oss" and the atmospheric brilliances of
"Filosofem", only the ambient parts present on
these albums has been almost completely left out
on "Belus". "There is no special reason for this,
other than coincidence and the fact that I have
for some time made more and better music on the
guitar rather than on the keyboard".

"Inspiration for the album has come from a
variety of sources, and I find my inspiration
from fairy tales and myths, from classical music,
from memories of what once was, from traditional
music, from fantasy, from the wind and weather,
from deep forests and running water, from the sky
and the sunset, from misty mountains and from
yellow leaves falling from age old trees".

"My ambition with "Belus" is to create something
I - and hopefully others too - can listen to for
years and years to come without ever growing
tired of it, and at the same time to share with
my audience the experience of getting to know
Belus, as he might have been perceived by the
ancient Europeans". The combination of lyrics and
music makes this a fairy tale different from most
others, and should appeal to all those who like
transcendental music and love to see different
things from a different perspective. "If I can
make you dream when listening to this album, I
believe I have done a good job".

"I am aware of the black metal association with
the name Burzum, and I have no real and serious
problem with that, but I personally see no reason
to place "Belus" in any category. I think "Belus"
musically transcends all existing categories, but
if I have to choose one - and for the sake of
simplicity - I will simply place it in the metal
category".

Here it is, no fake, the real deal. BERC scene rip from the 2*LP version of Belus. Most people bitch around about Burzum. In one way most of the people are right, Varg is a fucking moron, but on the other hand Burzum was / is a very important band of the old days in black metal back in the 90's. Most of his Burzum works weren't that bad. Now build your own oppinion on his new material. Leaky Friday!

Aldebaran & Unearthly Trance - Split

Aldebaran
ALDEBARAN is a band that bases its stylings on antiquated and modern human horror. Aldebaran’s music can be described as crushing blackened doom. Aldebaran features members from HC MINDS, Splatterhouse, Tusks of Blood, OKHA, etc…

Unearthly Trance
Hailing from Long Island/Brooklyn New York, UNEARTHLY TRANCE formed in 2000. Founding members Ryan (Rion) Lipynsky and Jay Newman started with the idea of a ‘Metaphysical Funeral Pyre’. Like a Phoenix Undead, UNEARTHLY TRANCE instantly gained attention due to the heavy atmospheric riffs laced with viciously attacking vocals. After hearing UT’s original demo tape “SonicBurialHymns”, Southern Lord Recording’s Greg Anderson quickly released the debut 7” ep “Lord Humanless Awakens” for the 7” of Doom series. Within a year, UNEARTHLY TRANCE put themselves on the map and into the subconscious of the underground metal scene.

Gäa - Auf der Bahn zum Uranus

Nothing is known about this obscure and classic band, except their sole album released on the rare and sought after Kerston label. Gäa were a typically cosmic Krautrock band, who like Mythos or Virus, infused their Teutonic art with lots of guitars, keyboards and much in the way of Pink Floyd styling. With enigmatic lyrics in German, lengthy largely instrumental tracks with all the classic moves, spaced-out organs - the works - “On the way to Uranus” is a magical album, a Krautrock classic!

subtractiveLAD - Life At The End Of The World

With five genre-defying and emotionally arresting full-lengths in as many years, Stephen Hummel (aka subtractiveLAD) has established himself as n5MD’s “flagship” artist and the embodiment of its “emotionally experimental” credo and ethos. Combining the warmth and warble of classic analogue hardware, a vast cache of original instruments and plug-ins and an improvisatory compositional freedom gained from over a decade in jazz, subtractiveLAD creates a sound both cathartic and escapist, highly personal yet universally accessible, with an emotional depth rarely heard in the often cold, cerebral world of “armchair electronica.”

As a classically trained vocalist, accomplished jazz saxophonist and Fine Arts student (with a major in English Lit.), Hummel had already accrued an impressive set of influences and inspirations when he decided to pad his resume (and wallet) by founding his own patch/plug-in company, “Wavelength Devices,” in 1999. Finding the same “thrill of discovery” in tweaking parameters that he’d relished in improv jazz, he spent the next four years creating custom instruments (with a special emphasis on analogue emulators), shedding his acoustic roots as he amassed the unique “sonic arsenal” that would become the bedrock of the subtractiveLAD sound. When business slowed in 2004, Hummel donned his new moniker (a nod to his favorite filters and an acknowledgment of his own mortality), produced a demo and, with an in from fellow Vancouverite Spark, dropped a copy on the desk of n5MD label-owner, Mike Cadoo. Impressed by the demo’s technical precision and emotional integrity, Cadoo signed him less than 6 months later and, in February 2005, released subtractiveLAD’s debut disc Giving Up The Ghost to widespread, international praise.

Ablaze in Hatred - Discography

Ablaze In Hatred was born in the year 2004 (Helsinki, Finland).
Two friends Juhani Sanna and Mika Ikonen had a desire to create music, which was dark, slow and same time very heavy and atmospheric.

In the autumn 2004 Ablaze In Hatred began to write music for the first promo-release. Early 2005 the song material was ready to be recorded in a studio.

In the spring 2005 drummer Antti Hakkala (Searing Meadow)and bassist Miska Lehtivuori (Fall Of The Leafe) joined the band.

In august 2005 Ablaze In Hatred went to the studio to record their first promo-cd called ‘Closure of Life’.

The songs were recorded at the Noisecamp studios with producer Kari Nieminen. The result of that session was three songs over 20 minutes of slow and
gloomy death/doom with growling vocals.

September 2005 ‘Closure of Life (promo 2005)’ was released.
The release gained soon a very positive response in the scene.

In October 2005 the band signed a deal with Firebox Records and started to write/finish the material for the full-length album.
The debut album, titled as “Deceptive Awareness”, was recorded in June 2006 and it will be released in early October 2006. We are all doomed…

Bloody Panda - Summon

Bloody Panda was birthed in the cold sub-chambers of grim New York City, United States in 2003 A.D. A thirst for new musical perversions besieged guitarist/firebreather Rothenberger and 4-string undulationist Camphire and the Doom Gods answered by bestowing upon them the Archpriestess of Doom, Yoshiko O’Hara. Vokillist O’Hara’s demo (“Spiral”) became the basis for early musical collaboration. Songs were composed strictly on the last day of the Earth’s existence, and high peaks of scorn were exhibited thusly. Keymaster/Necromancer Black McDowell further fortified the project and the undying funeral that is Bloody Panda was hence born. Battleskins are being provided by Dan Weiss, renowned tabla and drum master of depths unknown.

Subaudition - Discography

Subaudition was founded in spring 2003 as a sideproject to our prog metal/rock band Manifold Object, because after two years with MO the two of us wanted to create music which would be realised with totally different methods compared to our previous compositions. The project started as an acoustic one, but we ended up including some electric guitars and keyboards to some of the songs as well. We really took our time with the debut demo, Waves at Ease, as we were also taking our matriculation exams at the same time. After that we were just plain lazy to release the stuff and in July ‘03 we started to do our duties in the Finnish military.

In September Antti decided to leave Manifold Object mostly due to lack of time (army and forthcoming university studies) and he also felt that Manifold wasn’t heading in the direction he’d have wanted. Finally, in October we activated ourselves to create a suitable artwork for our debut-release and in December it was unleashed to the still unexpecting crowd…

Darkspace - Discography

Darkspace is an ambient black metal band from Switzerland formed in 1999, comprising three humans who call themselves Wroth, Zhaaral and Zorgh. Space-age names for an equally space-age project. True to its name what Darkspace’ music describes is the nothingness of space.

Their style is characterized by an ambient surrounding, hazy production and monotonic sounds, but which is somewhat uniquely melodic and variable. Mute guitar passages with blastbeats take turns with milder passages and sometimes even completely electronic passages, providing a fitting tribute to the cold, dark and void like atmosphere which fills their work. Unlike most pure black metal bands, Darkspace also uses some rhythmic, death-metal-oriented parts. This is evident in their first full-length-album “Dark Space I”.

Darkspace borrows a great deal of influence from electronic music, eerie, ambient synthlines which flow from the guitars. Passage with clear electronic clubkicks or total voidlike ambience are incorporated into vocal samples alongside the unnaturally lyricless and very alien sounding screams.
