La Dispute - Somewhere At The Bottom Of The River Between Vega And Altair

La Dispute is a five-piece band from Grand Rapids, MI. Most frequently referred to as Post-Hardcore (but sometimes also Progressive Rock and Screamo), La Dispute has spent roughly the last year of its existence writing and recording their first full length album, called “Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair,” in hopes of accurately displaying their growth both as individuals and as a single artistic unit while creating an end product that encourages the listener to both think and feel.

Drawing its title from an Asian folktale, “Somewhere” attempts to prompt discussion regarding the aspects of ourselves that prevent us from maintaining our happiness as people by documenting both their own experiences in the matter and the experiences of those around them, while musically encouraging the listener to expand their notions of music and art by exploring time signatures, tempos, dynamics, song structures, etc. The result of countless sleepless nights, exhaustingly precise recording sessions, and a diligence bordering psychosis, “Somewhere” is far and a way the bands most mature, articulate, and diverse release thus far expanding significantly upon the groundwork from its previous two short releases.

This is definitely one of my favorite records at the moment. Highly recommended for everybody!

Killed by Malaise - Demo # 2

killed by malaise existed from 2001 - 2003. they released a split 7" with danse macabre on totenschiff records as well as a lp on totenschiff, meudiademorte and my237 records. the lp contains the song from the split 7" in another version plus four songs from this recording session made in august 2002. on the flipside are five older tracks, recorded in october 2001 (the song "eigenleben" appeared on the monocore recordings 10" sampler called "how to destroy yourself").
people did always tend to call the lp a discography but we truly didn't want to call it that way for a band that just released a split 7". we just wanted to release the other songs because they meant a lot to us and we didn't want to "waste" them.

people went on to play in bands such as louise cyphre, patterns, silver salts, empire cheese and epilogue.

I dug this band a few years ago. Even if they had split up for ages I really fell in love with the stuff. Screamo as good as it gets, with nice riffing and vocals. The production of this second demotape is all DIY so don't be afraid when the sound is raw and dirty.

Tracklist
1. All my Passion
2. Endzeit Erwachen
3. One Day Hero
4. Sava and Blame

Dolcim - Guillotine Ride

As all screamo enthusiasts know, Dolcim contain two members that were in Cease Upon The Capitol, and the band formed pretty much as soon as CUTC broke up. I'm not a great fan of CUTC to be honest, I bought their records and I think I went through a period of thinking they were pretty great, but then I just got bored by them - they became below standard screamo to me. Even when I saw them at Trashfest a couple of years back I wasn't impressed. This is a pretty harsh start to the review, and I do still have their 7'' End Of History which I really like. But the point is that when I saw that Dolcim had formed I wasn't that bothered - I didn't expect much from them.

Fast forward a bit... when I finally got round to listening to them I was pleasantly surprised. And though it then still took me ages to get their demo, when I did a few weeks back I found it to be most fucking excellent. Three songs of awesome screamo still somewhat in the style of CUTC but new elements that made me enjoy it immensely. It's nothing out of the ordinary, but it is screamo done very well.

New Ethic / I Have Dreams / A New Kind Of American Saint

This is the story of one band from Tallahassee, Florida. The most well-known incarnation is probably the screamo outfit I Have Dreams, a band that was born from the ashes of New Ethic, when their guitar player Daniel died in a car accident.
“It was an attempt to cope with the pain everyone was feeling after Daniel’s death.”
New Ethic played their last show in August, 1998 with Daniel’s best friend Mike Hanson in his place, and it was about a month or two later that I Have Dreams started playing.
After I Have Dreams broke up, a new band called A New Kind Of American Saint was founded, which then played something I like to call "hardcore done right": short, aggressive and fun songs, with breakdowns used exactly the right way.

The three bands' released material combined lasts about 33 minutes, but these are definitely 33 well-invested minutes for every hardcore/screamo enthusiast. Oh, and do not expect a good sound quality. I Have Dreams seem to have went with the same recorders Ulver have used for their ultimate lo-fi sound on Nattens Madrigal.

Ultra Dolphins - Mar

Ultra Dolphins are continually on the move and hail from varied residences such as Brooklyn NY, Richmond VA, Philadelphia PA and the Catskill Mountains of upstate NY, - mainly based in Richmond, Virginia, United States. Formed in 2005.

When not touring in a beat-up van with broken windows they work in puppet shops, vegan cookie factories, and porno warehouses. Born and raised in basements of Harrisonburg, VA, the Ultra Dolphins seemed content to stay there.

Their live performances which were fabled to include pyrotechnics, nudity, stir frying, and relentless free form noise and improvisation, soon found them a cult-like following of like-minded weirdos who became integrated into the spectacle of rock and punk confusion. With guitars that sometimes crash like percussion instruments and sometimes riff like Jimmy Page over a thick rhythm section, the band was somehow both more chaotic yet tighter than anything else going on in the underground. An urgent punk energy fueled each and every sing-along, power-riff, infectious bass-line and ferocious downbeat. Now, many tours and years later, the energy created at their live shows has spread far, like some sort of glorious disease with no sign of a cure.

Arroyo - Individuum und Massen

You are alone in between the sea of lights of a city.

You look around and see from the wonders of nature to the hectically life of a modern society. You are numbed by the music and the noise of the city. As you close your eyes, you slip into a world, which dazes all of your senses. The river, which furthers you endlessly, leads you from single thoughts to an emotional examination of yourself and your surroundings. Suddenly the river screams and shouts in your direction till the last echoes of its words vanish in your subconscious.

The dream passed away. The reality closes in on you…

We shared the stage with great bands like ANTITAINMENT, THE BLACK HEART REBELLION (be), DATURAH, HEIRS (aus), LES TRUCS, MEN AS TRESS (usa), MORNE (usa), NEIL ON IMPRESSION (i), ROLLERGIRLS, SINGLE STATE OF MAN, THOUGHTS PAINT THE SKY and ...WHO CALLS SO LOUD (usa).

This release blew me away. Two screamo / post-hardcore songs which are scoring for 38 minutes. It's just pure awesomeness. Lyrics are German, but who cares, the music ist just crushing. Get this one!

United Nations - United Nations

United Nations is an experimental punk supergroup whose roots go back to at least 2005 formed by Geoff Rickly, the singer/lyricist of the band Thursday.

Other artists rumored to be involved in the project most noteably include Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw/Head Automatica fame along with Ben Koller of Converge. A handful of other names have also been mentioned: Chree (The Number Twelve Looks Like You), Eric Cooper (Kiss It Goodbye) Lukas Previn (Acid Tiger) Tom Keeley (Thursday) Jonah Bayer (The Lovekill).

Since Rickly is the only member whose primary band is currently not under contract, his name is the only one that can legally appear in press materials. Press photos of the band released in 2008 depict four people wearing Ronald Reagan masks, believed to be because of this reason. The only exception to this being when Daryl breifly mentioned being involved in the project to Punk News in 2005 (http://www.punknews.org/article/13238). Baring all this in mind, the official line-up is not well known.

The bands debut record entiled United Nations was released in September 2008 amid much controversy surrounding the original artwork and also the bands
name.

Daïtro are a French screamo band whose combination of chaotic discord and melodic post-rock elements has entranced listeners since 2002. To date, Daïtro has released three albums: Des Cendres, Je Me Consumme, Laisser vivre les squelettes, and Y.
