Phallus Dei - Nature Mortes (FLAC)

After a five year break, PHALLUS DEI continue their unique approach and uphold their status of uncompromising outsider within the industrial/avant-garde scene.

Criminally underrated band.

Dominik Eulberg - Sensorika

Dominik Eulberg, born in 1978 in Westerwald, Germany is an electronic music artist and DJ who has released numerous singles as well as full-length albums on labels such as cocoon recordings and Traum Schallplatten. He occasionally works as park ranger in German National parks, an occupation he plans to pursue full time in the near future after retiring from music.

All kinds of sounds of nature set out the repertoire of sounds in his songs and give an organic, vivid character to his tracks.
From the croaking of frogs to the cackling of birds, Dominik Eulberg always finds enough room for singing animals in his songs. That can be seen clearly if you look at some of his track titles, such as for example "Basstölpel” (bass gannet).

Sol Invictus is an English neofolk and neoclassical group fronted by Tony Wakeford.
Wakeford founded Sol Invictus in order to pursue his own musical ideas. He was an original member of Crisis and Death In June with Douglas P… He formed Sol Invictus in 1987, working with Ian Read and Karl Blake. VA - Falling Down Compilation II

This compilation is in one word fan-fucking-tastic. Yep, this will be a fasten-your-seatbelt-because-I'm-praising-this-shit-to-the-skies kind of review.

Quality music doesn't grow on trees. Luckily two French students decided to bring some of the quality together. Basically the idea behind the Falling Down Compilations is that of a fancy wine and cigar gala for a forward-thinking alignment of musicians. The good news is this compilation is your VIP pass to that exclusive party. Because exclusive it is, as Falling Down strictly features previously unreleased tracks of practically unknown (read: underground) bands that are tremendously talented and born to set the world on fire sooner or later.

This is really my type of compilation, y'know. It satiates a large chunk of my musical appetite (sludge, post-metal, a bit of stoner and ambient here and there, even doom, drone and grindcore on select occasions) and there aren't really any big names on it (unless you're from some parallel elitist universe where The Ocean, God Is An Astronaut and Ufomammut fall under the category of big names). Anyway, there's plenty of room to discover something new. In short you're in for a treat as this thing is packed with novelties, rarities and little pearls that keep the audience mesmerized the whole ride long.

Describing 26 bands and over two and a half hours worth of ecstasy inducting music would take us too far. Let's just keep it short and say that even if you're not the biggest fan of this music (although the scope is very varied) there will still be enough tracks kindling your interest. Some songs will bring out some weird state of psychedelic excitement. Some songs are enormously sultry, oppressive, strained and even desolate. Then you have songs that will leave you lost in delirium. While some other songs are pure stunning madness at its very best.

So is this compilation the guy that pushed you off the edge of the world? Or is it the parachute? Or is it the cushion that'll break your fall? Well, the truth is, there never was any solid ground, and there never will be. This compilation is the vast nothingness of outer space in which you'll keeping falling... and falling... and falling. If you like slogans "Falling Down will literally sweep you off your feet" would be a good one.

(Taken from here)
Hell yeah. This compilation should be praised to heaven. A lot of unreleased tracks from some of the greatest bands around the sludge/doom/post-rock scene. Grab it, enjoy it!

Black Shape of Nexus & Kodiak - Split 12"

Black Shape Of Nexus

"Nexus", the centre of something, or a connection, as any dictionary will tell you. Appropriately for BLACK SHAPE OF NEXUS as the suffocating heaviness of their music functions either way – they can be the centre of your worst nightmares or the connection to all those dark places where you don’t ever want to go. Or both. Pummelling you with painfully slow doom and finishing you off with acrid, harsh drones, B·SON give down-tempo a whole new meaning.

Their discography so far also shows a band not afraid to step outside the established norms, following the staggering doom of the self-titled 2007 debut with a limitededition drone album, the immensely scary "Microbarome Meetings".

If their records alone are enough to never let you sleep comfortably at night again, wait until you catch them on stage, when all the bitterness and slow-burning aggression of their songs come out in a terribly intense form – the guitars howl, the bass thumps, the keys are hammered into submission and the drums are beaten to within an inch of their sorry lives, all while vocalist Malte Seidel releases his almighty roar like an enraged caged bear would.

Escaping easy categorization or stylistic limits, focusing on weight and darkness, B·SON’s black sonic miasma needs to be experienced.

Kodiak

"Their sound excels as a mixture of monolithic ultraheavy compositions with expressionistic poems. Their algid songs consist of long monotonous build-ups (comparable to a long lonely haunting trip through the arctic) and some seldom parts of eruption, disembarrassment and hope. the perfect soundtrack for a picnic in the middle of nowhere."

New stuff from these two bands based in Germany. Mastered by James Plotkin so get ready for more then half an hour full of doom an dronish music. Fits perfectly on a saturday morning.

Ataraxia - Nosce Te Ipsum

Nosce Te Ipsum, a new steep into the ancient times of this very important medieval band from Italy !!! This is a re-release, the songs were taken from the 1991 homonym Ataraxia’s demotape previously included in « Ad perpetuam rei memoriam » CD. ...the states of mind and heart collected in the pages of a voluminous book, "Prophetia". Is destiny driven by accident or by Fortune ? A Kafkian succession of questions without answer in a re-created inquisitorial trial of our times, the slow march of a humanity who tries desperately and unsuccesfully to know itself bearing the burden of its own chaotic existence and blindness. Finally, an act of rebellion and courage, an awakened consciousness that could lead to a new birth and refound harmony in the fluid cycle of Nature where every gesture and sound acquires a metaphysical value. Will we be able to transform the rought material into Gold?

Mouth of the Architect - The Violence Beneath

Soon after the band released a split with label mates Kenoma in 2006, their second album The Ties That Blind was released in August, and featured Brent Hinds of Mastodon on guest vocals on one track. To support The Ties That Blind, the band toured extensively around the United States, first with These Arms Are Snakes in late 2006, then with 400 Blows and Unsane in May and June of 2007.

Their latest album, Quietly, was recorded after Lahm in turn left the band, with Vernon returning alongside newcomer Steve Brooks to jointly handle guitars and vocals, with Kevin Schindel providing bass. Soon after the release of the album by Translation Loss Records, Vernon left yet again, with Schindel filling the guitar void.

Schindel, Vernon, and Brooks have been members of the band Twelve Tribes at various points in the past.

Alcest - Écailles de lune

Formed in 1999 by French black metal multi-instrumentalist Neige (who also worked with Peste Noire, Mortifera, and Amesoeurs), Alcest was originally conceived as a solo project. It would eventually take on the form of a full band as Hegnor (also of Peste Noire) and Arguth joined the fray and released a four-track demo entitled Tristesse Hivernale in 1999. This demo was a more straightforward black metal affair, much different from what would happen next. After that released, Alcest returned to a one-member format, with Neige moving away from the metal overtones of the three-piece and embracing a more atmospheric approach to his work. The 2005 EP release, Le Secret, was more in tune with the project`s ultimate goal, which was to put to ear, as it were, Neige`s fascination with an “otherworld” — of sorts — that had held a fascination for him beginning in his childhood. In 2007, Neige released the first full-length Alcest recording, Souvenirs D`un Autre Monde (Memories of Another World, for those keeping up in English), which was released on Prophecy Productions, and was a critical success. 2007 also saw a split-EP release with Angmar.

Roky Erickson with Okkervil River - True Love Cast Out All Evil

Roky Erickson (born Roger Kynard Erickson on July 15, 1947) is an American singer, songwriter, harmonica player and guitarist from Austin, Texas. He was a founding member of the 13th Floor Elevators, who are considered to be the first band to ever use the word “” to describe rock music.

Okkervil River began as a mutual project of Will Sheff (vocals, guitar), and Seth Warren (guitar). They met and collaborated together when both were still in high school in Meriden, NH. After relocating to Austin, TX in the late 90’s, the duo decided to re-assemble the band with the addition of Zachary Thomas (vocals, bass), Jonathan Meiburg (vocals, banjo), and drummer Travis Nelsen. In 1998, the group self-released their first disc, the “Bedroom” (EP), followed a year later with their debut album “Stars Too Small to Use”. During the succeeding years, the band regularly played live on numerous occasions, including an appearance at the South by Southwest festival in 2000.

Somatic Responses - Circumflex

john and paul healy, collectively known throughout the world as somatic responses, are native residents of a small industrial mining community snugly located in the southwest region of wales. amongst the 20,000 inhabitants of the city of ammanford, a sometimes-overbearing intimacy exists, where everyone knows everyone else, and where traditional welsh lifestyle is still the common trend.this is all quite an interesting backdrop indeed, when considering it has been the environment in which the somatic responses have consistently produced some of the world's most abrasive and original electronic music for the past 8 years. as john healy states, "our lives are completely external to this environment and lifestyle... our sound has no deep connection to our surroundings. i think we care more about where we are mentally than where we are physically, with reference to our music." this contrast becomes immediately apparent upon hearing the somatics' actual material. while maintaining a consistent balance of the aggressive and the introspective over the years, their sounds have been shown to be extremely diverse. the somatic responses intend to push their own experimentation in electronic music further with every passing day. somatic responses are into dislocated & broken beats that still retain rhythm. another consistent theme in the somatics' music is their tendency to design, construct, and decimate complex structures of sound, while ranging the level of architecture from the most intricate manipulation to complete fluctuation of mood and theme.

the sounds could be labeled as industrial with complex dislocated rhythms and associated structures filled with pure plasic and atari cookies.

Benn Jordan - Pale Blue Dot: A Tribute to Carl Sagan

An appropriate biography for Benn Jordan (the man behind The Flashbulb, Flexe, Q-bit, Acidwolf, and countless other pseudonyms) would be in the form of a stock ticker constantly scrolling up to date information on his multiple careers and endeavors. He is well known around the world in electronica for his abrasive trademarks multiplied with a level of diversity that makes just about anyone’s head spin. His catalog of releases is so extensive and obscure that there is no place on the internet that can accurately and completely list them. It also seems that Benn has replaced sleeping with film composing, and has recently mirrored his accomplishments in the film industry.

Brant Bjork - Gods & Goddesses

This line up did not last long, as shortly after “Blues for the Red Sun” was released, Oliveri left and Bjork followed the same path soon after the band’s famed release, “Welcome To Sky Valley” in 1994. The same year, Bjork helped produce his surfing buddies Fu Manchu “No One Rides For Free”. Bjork then joined on as the drummer and helped release albums such as 1997’s “Action Is Go”, 1999’s “Eatin’ Dust”, 2000’s “King Of The Road” and 2001’s “California Crossing”.

During this whole time period, Bjork also built up Duna Records (formerly called El Camino Records). From this label launched Bjork’s solo career beginning with the revered 1999’s “Jalamanta”. Other solo realeases include “Keep Your Cool” and “Local Angel”. Also he has put out “Brant Bjork & The Operators” in 2002 and “Saved by Magic” by Brant Bjork and the Bros in 2005. Apart from his blossoming solo career, he has also put together Che with Alfredo Hernandez (ironic because Hernandez replaced him as the drummer for Kyuss) and Dave Dinsmore of Unida.

Triptykon - Eparistera Daimones

Triptykon is the most recent musical project of Thomas Gabriel Fischer, founding member of the pioneering heavy metal bands Hellhammer, Celtic Frost and Apollyon Sun. Fischer announced his departure from Celtic Frost in May 2008 and shortly afterwards revealed that his new project would be entitled Triptykon. Fischer commented: “Triptykon will sound as close to Celtic Frost as is humanly possible, and the album I am working on will feature all the material I envisioned for the successor to Celtic Frost’s Monotheist. I desire the album to be a darker, heavier, and slightly more experimental development of Monotheist.” The first audio sample, for the song “Crucifixus” can be heard on the band’s official Myspace page.

On August 5, 2009, Triptykon issued a press release indicating that the recording of their debut album, Eparistera Daimones, would commence in the middle of August and continue through November, with a release in the spring of 2010.

Coldworld - Melancholie²

ColdWorld was created in Germany in the year 2005 by G.B., the only member.

ColdWorld’s first demo, “The Stars Are Dead Now”, was released via Ancient Dreams Prod. and limited to 100 copies. “Melancholie²”, ColdWorld’s debut album, was released in April 2008 via Cold Dimensions.

ColdWorld combines melodic Black Metal with influences from Ambient / Electronic and a breath of classical music. The centre stage takes the music with its sweeping melodies and icy atmosphere. ColdWorld’s music is music that forces fine-tuned listening and allows the listener submerge his/herself within a very special, cold world. ColdWorld leaves behind conventional, traditional Black Metal and brings forth new possibilities when it comes to song-writing and interpretation.

Der Blutharsch - The Pleasures Received In Pain

Der Blutharsch is the main project of Austrian musician Albin Julius. Following in the footsteps of Autopsia and Laibach, Julius creates a marching music of bombastic rhythms and folkish melodies, often infused with historical military speeches and orchestral samples. The earlier works tended towards a minimalistic sample-based instrumental style in an industrial/ambient vein, while more recent material has headed into a folk/acoustic sound, often accompanied with live vocals and instruments.

Ah Cama-Sotz - Dead Cities

Tales of Dead Cities as described by the Master of Darkness, the Bat himself. For his new album Dead Cities Ah Cama-Sotz created no less then ten descriptive aural landscapes from all over the world; From the solitude of the empty streets of 'Enuma Elish' to the concrete structures which are nothing less then the remains of a reactor meltdown ('Thermonuclear').

There are many stories, myths and legends about the origin of civilization and many of them have their roots in the Middle-East. The ritual and Arabian influences on Dead Cities are a welcome diversion in the current era of straightforward and emotionless thinking. And as with so many other releases from Ah Cama-Sotz, Dead Cities is also a lesson in history and philosophy.

The multitude of influences you will be able to discover on this album are as diverse as the various locations of the Dead Cities. The tracks range from deep ambient with a religious touch to ritual layered structures - sometimes even close to straightforward dub - to technoid industrial epic anthems, bound to make the audience scream - no wait - pray for more.

Murder By Death - Good Morning, Magpie

Indiana’s Murder by Death (formerly known as Little Joe Gould) layers the vocal sounds of an old saloon with the haunting strings of a Hungarian folk dance and the hard driving rhythms of pure rock ‘n’ roll, producing what Stuff magazine has called “lush, orchestrated songs,” somehow simultaneously reminiscent of Johnny Cash and Radiohead. Added to that thick and intriguing sound are a series of dark and ironic lyrics, combining the mood and tone of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds with the narrative force of The Decemberists or a short story by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Adam Turla fills out these sometimes frightening, sometimes beautiful lyrics by conjuring up a cast of character voices, allowing the songs to speak with the force of the characters themselves, and providing the listener with a sense of ensemble unique in rock music.

I fell in love with this band some years ago when I was listenning to their debut album and since then I've seen them live and I was always digging their music. I didn't think that this was to happen that fast but here is the new record of this indie-folk-rock band. If you don't know them give 'em a try, their brilliant. Enjoy!

Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me

Joanna Newsom (born January 18, 1982) started taking piano lessons at a very early age and played for a couple of years, but switched to the harp at seven. Her approach to the harp, from the percussive aspects of her playing to her chord changes, was also influenced by West African and Venezuelan harp music, which she began studying at a folk music camp she attended in her early teens. At the same time, she also listened to more vocal-based folk, punk, and jazz like Karen Dalton, Texas Gladden, Patti Smith, and Billie Holiday. By the time she reached high-school age, Newsom decided she wanted to become a composer, and while that became the focus of her studies, in her free time she began writing and recording instrumental songs. Eventually, Newsom’s passion for songwriting won out, and she began studying creative writing to work with words in the same way she was accustomed to working with music.

Red Sparowes - The Fear Is Excruciating, But Therein Lies the Answer

Red Sparowes is a post-rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, United States, comprising current and former members of Isis, Neurosis, Halifax Pier, Samsara, Angel Hair and Pleasure Forever. Their sound is characteristic of soundscape-influenced experimental rock, with an otherwise uncommon extensive use of a pedal steel guitar.

Red Sparowes formed in 2003 as another project for its members: Bryant Clifford Meyer, Greg Burns, Josh Graham, Jeff Caxide, and Dana Berkowitz. Andy Arahood and david clifford joined the band after the release of Red Sparowes’ debut album, At The Soundless Dawn, as replacements for departed Caxide and Berkowitz respectively.

Through signing to Neurot Recordings, Neurosis’ record label, Red Sparowes toured with The Dillinger Escape Plan and Made Out of Babies in 2004 after recording demos for their debut album. The debut was recorded in late May of 2004 by engineer Desmond Shea, with the resulting sound in the vein of guitarist Bryant Clifford Meyer and Jeff Caxide’s band Isis, Chicago post-rock/metal outfit Pelican, and New Zealand post-rock band Jakob. Members Jeff Caxide and Dana Berkowitz relocated in late 2004, thus forcing them out of the band.

Red Sparowes’ first studio album, At The Soundless Dawn, was released in February of 2005, following guitarist Bryant Clifford Meyer’s other band, Isis, in their initial tours in support of Panopticon. Shortly after this release, a split 12” was released with Gregor Samsa.

Songs: Ohia - The Lioness

Songs: Ohia is largely a solo project for singer-songwriter Jason Molina. Critics and fans alike have found considerable difficulty in trying to define the band’s sound, usually settling on more general labels such as indie rock and folk rock. Most are quick to draw comparisons to Neil Young and Will Oldham, (the latter of which Molina has collaborated with, alongside Alasdair Roberts, as the Amalgamated Sons of Rest).
So sad, so beautiful. A masterpiece.

Negură Bunget - Măiestrit

Negură Bunget is black fog rising from a never-ending deep dark forest. It’s a symbolic name that somehow tries to picture the kind of musical and spiritual atmosphere we’d like to create through our music. The two words come from the oldest Romanian language substrate, symbolizing this way tradition and authenticity.

Coldworld - The Stars are dead now

No Politics - Just Music!

The Dillinger Escape Plan - Option Paralysis

The Dillinger Escape Plan had become dissatisfied with the music industry and music media, and decided to created their own record label to release their fourth studio-album. Commenting on the dissolving "indie band culture", guitarist Ben Weinman stated, "Back in the day there were record labels that you trusted, loved and you bought everything on it and you discovered a lot of great new music because of it. You listen to every single song back to front a million times, it'd be worn out to death before you moved onto another record. You'd read everything in the booklet, you'd read all the lyrics, you'd read all the notes, you'd discover something new."[4] The Dillinger Escape Plan announced their departure from Relapse Records in 2009. The band created their own label, Party Smasher Inc., an imprint of French record label Season of Mist. The label was originally erroneously reported to be called Photogenic Records.[5][6] The band has stated that Party Smasher is not technically a record label but a "creative umbrella" for all things related to The Dillinger Escape Plan. In an interview with Alternative Press, Weinman stated, "Well, I should clarify that it's not exactly our attempt to run a record label. That's not something we could be good at, and it's obviously not something anybody's good at these days. [Laughs] It's more a situation where we now have a name for this umbrella that covers every business and artistic decision we make–whether it's Dillinger, side projects or whatever.

Devin Townsend Project - Addicted!

Devin Townsend Project begins where Ziltoid the Omniscient left off, with Devin Townsend at the helm. The project is a planned four-album series. Rather than a specific line-up of musicians, as he utilized in The Devin Townsend Band, and rather than performing the entirety of the music himself, as in Ziltoid the Omniscient, the Devin Townsend Project will feature a number of different musicians for each album.

The first release, Ki, is set to be available for purchase by late May and early June 2009. For Ki, Townsend recruited veteran jazz drummer Duris Maxwell, local bassist Jean Savoie, and the former keyboardist for The Devin Townsend Band, Dave Young. Devin has also recruited Ché Dorval as an additional vocalist.

The second release is titled Addicted. Planned to be a heavy, simplistic, and straightforward rock album, it serves as the bridge from the quieter Ki to the expected zany metal tones of the album following it. The line-up thus far confirmed is Ryan Van Poederooyen (also a veteran of The Devin Townsend Band) on the drums, another member of the DTB Brian Waddell on the bass, and Anneke van Giersbergen (notable from The Gathering, Agua de Annique and Ayreon) on an unspecified amount of vocals.

The third and fourth albums are called Deconstruction and Ghost, with further concrete details forthcoming.

Xingu Hill - Alterity

'alterity' is the fourth xingu hill album and the latest output of john n. sellekaers, well-known as creative collaborator with projects like torsion, black lung/xingu hill, snog, urawa, ambre, & nternal and chief of the audiomastering-studio metarc in brussels.

this album is free from stylistic limitations, it travels through groovy ambient tunes with surrealistic atmospheres to chaotic soundscapes towards slower, more experimental pieces which however form an intimate coexistence. the complex melting of these different styles emphasizes 'alterity' with a special, unique character, which may first appear with a strange affection but gets familiar the more attentive you listen. deeply fractured sonic mutations build up their own morphogenic aesthetics. it's unalterable giving a mindfully listening to enjoy a more experimental side of electronic music and assimilate the full potential with access to an exceptional sound experience! it exists in its own space and with its own rules!

Skepticism - Lead and Aether

Finland’s Skepticism is one of the pioneers of funeral doom metal. Combining painfully slow Doom/Death Metal styled riffs, solemn keyboards and sparse percussion with deep growling, boundaries were pushed once again.

The band uses four instruments: drums, played with felt beaters, keyboards with organ pedals, guitar, and vocals. With this, they create songs that are both within the range of contemporary doom metal in terms of heaviness and slowness, yet far beyond the range of others where atmosphere and sound is considered.

Besides the music, Skepticism purposefully create a mysterious and abstract atmosphere, in terms of lyrics, artwork, contact with the outside world, and performance.

The Austrasian Goat - The Austrasian Goat

Austrasia was the name of a forgotten land, between france and germany. Centuries after centuries, the people of Austrasia refused the christian influence and kept a relative independance until the 18th century. Through the ages, this land kept marks of ancient pagan rites, scares of deceases and major conflicts, and shroud of suffering, hidden behind apparent serenity. This green desert attests the fall of a civilization. An isle of freedom. A territorial incarnation of despair. THE AUSTRASIAN GOAT is a way to celebrate a cultural singularity, independantly from any national consideration. The Goat doesn't care about borders. His banner is as black as the depth of his wounded soul. The Goat incarnates a dark truth trough a fragile humanity.

Have a Nice Life - Time of Land EP

Have a Nice Life is a shoegaze / industrial / new wave hybrid duo from Middletown, Connecticut, United States formed in year 2000.

It is the brainchild of Tim Macuga, black metal experimentalist in Nahvalr and songwriter for the classic Western Massachusetts hardcore band The Danger Strangers, and Dan Barrett, singer of the ghost music project Giles Corey and the now-defunct In Pieces.

HANL released their first full-length record in January of 2008, a double-album entitled Deathconsciousness.

The two discs (entitled The Plow that Broke the Plains and The Future, respectively) feature music spanning over five years of collaboration between the two artists, and are accompanied by a 75-page booklet on medieval Italian heretics in lieu of liner notes. The album was entirely self-released, right down to the hand-painted discs, and put out via the Enemies List Home Recordings label.

The Jesus Lizard - Goat

The Jesus Lizard is a noise rock music group formed in 1989 in Chicago, Illinois. The band took their name from a common nickname for the basilisk, a type of lizard that can run on water. The members of the band were/are: Duane Denison (guitars), David Yow (vocals), Daivd Wm. Sims (bass) and Mac McNeilly (drums). The Jesus Lizard reformed in 2008, playing a number of shows the next year with their classic line-up. These shows included appearances at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago, and All Tomorrow’s Parties music festivals in England and New York.

While never finding much mainstream success, The Jesus Lizard have been called “a leading noise rock band in the American independent underground … (who) turned out a series of independent records filled with scathing, disembowelling, guitar-driven pseudo-industrial noise, all of which received positive reviews in underground music publications and heavy college-radio play.”
