Moss - Discography

One of the most extreme doom acts out there. Moss is sort of like an unholy mixture between funeral doom and sludge doom. Ultra slow, Ultra heavy music that will appeal to all fans of extreme doom metal. The sick screams add even more to the distorted musical view of Moss. The music however also knows some more ambient parts, which help the foreboding atmosphere even more. Moss is one of the most interesting Doom acts of recent times, but only for those who are into extreme Doom.

Skullflower - Taste The Blood Of The Deceiver

"We’ve only had the good/loud fortune to witness Matthew Bower perform live on ONE solitary occasion, but the infinite incineration he managed to detonate out of a single electric guitar and knee-high practice amp was convincing enough to last several lives. In the meantime, there’s the gallons of celestial skree he bombards the listening universe with via his cavalry of audio aliases (Skullflower, Total, Hototogisu, Sunroof!, Mirag), all of which radiate with Bower’s iconic, influential, two-decades-deep quest to fuse the bruised with the blissed in a single white-light fist held up high. And although his specific mission for each project seems to have crossfaded a bit in recent years, it’s still huge news to us to be able offer up Taste The Blood Of The Deceiver, the first full-length Skullflower album to be pressed on vinyl since forever (at least the early 90s). Taste The Blood... finds Bower in the more blackened, doom-damaged terrains like those stripmined on the recent Desire For A Holy War or Pure Imperial Reform: abrupt vertical baths of blinding distortion and harmonic override spiked with cavernous cultish riffs and deeply bleak ritual moods. The blood is fresh, but the body’s unrecognizable. Charred and forgotten, this is another stepping stone on the path to the upturned altar. Black vinyl LPs in fucked-up-and-photocopied matte jackets. Edition of 500 copies." - Not Not Fun.

Skullflower - IIIrd Gatekeeper

Skullflower, one of the most important and influential British noise bands, formed in 1988. They are eternally led by Matthew Bower, the current lineup featuring Lee ‘Culver’ Stokoe and Samantha Davies. Recent studio recordings and concerts have featured original drummer / vocalist Stuart Dennison.

The band originally evolved from a group of occasional, floating players working under various guises, which became Skullflower prior to the release of the debut “Birthdeath” EP on Broken Flag records in 1988. This first record featured the following line-up: Stefan Jaworzyn, Gary Mundy (of the seminal Ramleh), Matthew Bower and Stuart Dennison.

The first, titled 12012291920/1414101, released in 2007 on Invada Records, a UK based record label. Consisting of two near 30 minute pieces of drone and guitar experimentation, it differs from Atavist’s usual style of doom metal, and leans more toward the drone sound of Nadja. Four Tet - Pause

Four Tet is the name used by Kieran Hebden (born 1977 in Putney, London, UK) for his experimental electronic music-oriented solo efforts, to differentiate from his work with post-rock band Fridge.

Hebden’s solo work typically utilises samples lifted from various sources including hip-hop, electronica, techno, jazz, and folk mixed with his own guitar playing. Four Tet shares some stylistic similarities with other musicians, such as Prefuse 73, who use computer editing techniques that give the music a staccato, cut-up feel. Hebden’s music is notable for its rich, organic sounds and harmonious melodies as well as for eschewing the traditional pop-song format in favour of a more abstract approach.

Fall of Efrafa - Discography

Fall of Efrafa are a concept band formed in Brighton, United Kingdom in 2005, starting life as a cello driven hardcore band, yet after various line up changes, focused on creating their own sound, mixing elements of post rock, post metal and ambient folk black metal- taking influence from bands such as Neurosis, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Agalloch and Buried Inside. They now describe their music as heavy atmospheric post-hardcore.

The concept is based loosely around their own interpretation of the Mythology in the novel “Watership Down” by Richard Adams. The band has created a trilogy of records known collectively as “The Warren of Snares”: Owsla (guardian), Elil (enemy) and lastly Inlé (death). The narrative behind the lyrics follows a society on the brink of social collapse, under a theocratic rule. An uprising occurs in the face of a greater enemy. Characters from the book, and the make believe language known as ‘lapine’ are also included in both the artwork and lyrics.

The band have received a lot of praise for their music, both for the concept surrounding the band - a mix of mythological language and imagery amidst anti-religious, animal rights ideologies - and the music itself, although fans are often divided, when pigeon holing their sound.

The band is staunchly DIY, but manage to sidestep specific labels by incorporating a mixture of disparate post rock and avant-garde / folk black metal passages and hardcore punk influences.

Electric Wizard - Live at Roadburn 2005

Electric Wizard are a doom metal band from Dorset, England that formed in 1993. The band have since recorded six albums, two of which are now considered to be landmarks of their genre: Come My Fanatics… and Dopethrone. Burial - Untrue

“Raver” most fully answers the question of what in Burial’s music draws listeners towards it: it is empty, but not in a vacuous way. Its emptiness is inviting, that of the outsider in the club, or on the bus, hovering just in the shadows and taking in the room, the landscape. That emptiness tempts a listener in, and puts you in its place – you, in a sense, step into the record’s point of view. This invitation to intimacy is a powerful move that most club music is simply incapable of. Ironically, dubstep’s most well-known producer is also its most secretive, and his enforced privacy is another element that speaks to many. The narrator on “Archangel” wonders, ”If I trust you…” and then trails off. It’s a testing of the waters, a reaching out: Burial, the ever-present observer, has something to tell us. Untrue is his secret, whispered in public.

Lustmord - Heresy

Brian “Lustmord” Williams is a musician in the subgenre of dark ambient. He started recording with the industrial ensemble SPK in the early 1980s. He utilizes ultra-low frequencies (infrasound — frequencies below 20 Hz, which have been known to cause feelings of awe or fear). Lustmord has extracted field recordings made in crypts, caves, and slaughterhouses, and combined it with occasional ritualistic incantations and Tibetan horns. His treatments of acoustic phenomena encased in digitally expanded bass rumbles have a dark ambient quality. Some of Lustmord’s most notable collaborations include Robert Rich on the critically acclaimed “Stalker” and experimental sludge group The Melvins on “Pigs of the Roman Empire”.

Death in June - The Guilty have no Pride (Re-Issue)

Early Death in June (1981–1985)

Death in June soon left the reticent punk scene behind and began to infuse their sound with electronics and martial style drumming, combined with a Joy Division-influenced post-punk sound. Their lyrics maintained much of the poetry and political urgency of the early Crisis recordings. Tracks such as the early single sides "Holy Water" and "State Laughter" demonstrated an ongoing fascination with political systems. Further on, Douglas P. would abandon any overt interest in politics in favor of a more esoteric approach to his work.

The band played their first show on November 25, 1981 in London, England, supporting The Birthday Party followed by a short British tour in 1982 (the May 28 show was released unofficially by Patrick Leagas later in 1987 as Oh How We Laughed) and a more extensive tour in 1983.

For 1983's The Guilty Have No Pride LP, Death in June began to adopt a more traditional European folk sound, using more acoustic guitars, references to ancient and contemporary European history, and combining heavy percussion with electronic soundscapes and post-industrial experimentation.

(Taken from Wikipedia)
The first full length of Death in June featuring more industrial and post-punk than neofolk. One of my most admired records bei DIJ, enjoy!
