Guru Guru - UFO

Guru Guru is one of the most notable German Krautrock bands, existing from the late 1960s to the present. The band has had many incarnations over nearly 4 decades. Drummer Mani Neumeier has remained as the only original member.

Mani and bassist Uli Trepte came from playing free jazz in the mid 1960’s with pianist Irene Schweizer and the appear on an obscure out of print album under her name shortly before forming Guru Guru in the late 1960’s. The were joined by ex-Agitation Free guitarist Ax Geinrich as a “power trio” that was clearly influenced by Hendrix, Zappa and LSD and perhaps Karlheinz Stockhausen.

Kodiak / Nadja - Split

KODIAK (Germany)

are a new 3 piece down tempo metal band. Their sound excels as a mixture of monolithic ultraheavy compositions with expressionistic poems. Their algid songs consist of long monotonous build-ups (comparable to a long lonely haunting trip through the arctic) and some seldom parts of eruption, disembarrassment and hope. In may 2008 they released their first 2 song cdr via Denovali Records, which was sold out in 2 months. Since may 2008 they shared the stage with bands like Amen Ra, Black Shape Of Nexus, Caspian or Monarch. Definitely something for fans of Pelican, Isis, Omega Massif oder Switchblade. In February 2009 they will release their Debut LP together with Denovali Records. Later in 2009 a split LP with Black Shape Of Nexus will follow on Denovali Records and Roadburn Records.

Arroyo - Individuum und Massen

You are alone in between the sea of lights of a city.

You look around and see from the wonders of nature to the hectically life of a modern society. You are numbed by the music and the noise of the city. As you close your eyes, you slip into a world, which dazes all of your senses. The river, which furthers you endlessly, leads you from single thoughts to an emotional examination of yourself and your surroundings. Suddenly the river screams and shouts in your direction till the last echoes of its words vanish in your subconscious.

The dream passed away. The reality closes in on you…

We shared the stage with great bands like ANTITAINMENT, THE BLACK HEART REBELLION (be), DATURAH, HEIRS (aus), LES TRUCS, MEN AS TRESS (usa), MORNE (usa), NEIL ON IMPRESSION (i), ROLLERGIRLS, SINGLE STATE OF MAN, THOUGHTS PAINT THE SKY and ...WHO CALLS SO LOUD (usa).

This release blew me away. Two screamo / post-hardcore songs which are scoring for 38 minutes. It's just pure awesomeness. Lyrics are German, but who cares, the music ist just crushing. Get this one!

DŸSE - DŸSE

Formed in the Spring of 2003 and named after the Dysecatmotel in Amsterdam where they first met, DŸSE began as a fun, drunken side project for Jari and André to try new things with music they enjoyed, writing songs with no limitations or expectations from anyone. In 2004, the first in a trilogy of 7 inch singles was released called “Honig” (Honey), followed by dozens of gigs as they perfecting their live show and became tighter than tight. The second single “Aga Ragnag” came out in 2005, followed by the third and final instalment “Houthakkertje” in 2006. To promote the completion of the 7 inches, Jari and André booked themselves a

gruelling four-week tour across Europe and the UK. The response to each show was overwhelming as audiences everywhere were blown away by this unique, energetic and incredibly entertaining duo. When they returned home from the tour, the band were approached to join the Exile on Mainstream Records family where they were warmly welcomed by all bands on the roster, elated to
be associated with such great musicians and people. June 2007 will see the release of DŸSE’s self-titled debut album and they have a lot of things to look forward to this year: more tours, good people and lots and lots of good times.

Bohren & Der Club of Gore - Discography

Bohren & der Club of Gore are a noir jazz band founded in 1992 in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany by Thorsten Benning (drums), Morten Gass (keys), Reiner Henseleit (guitar), and Robin Rodenberg (upright / double bass). They play a crossover of jazz and ambient, which they self described as an “unholy ambient mixture of slow jazz ballads, Black Sabbath doom and down tuned Autopsy sounds”. Over the years they have continously reduced and compressed their music to extremes.

Originally, the members of Bohren, who were school friends, started out playing in various hardcore bands such as 7 Inch Boots and Chronical Diarrhoea in 1988. Driven by the idea of a more unique style of music, they formed Bohren (German word for drilling) in 1992 to play, as they called it, „doom ridden jazz music“. In 1993 the band released a 7“ep for Suggestion Records. 1993 also saw the band expand their name to Bohren & der Club of Gore, as a link to the Dutch instrumental band Gore, which inspired Bohren to play instrumental music. 1994 followed the longplayers Gore Motel and the double set Midnight Radio (1995), both on Epistrophy Records, where Bohren introduced its musical vision between slow jazz- ballads and doom-guitars.

Henseleit left the band in 1996 and was replaced by Christoph Clöser, a Cologne-based composer and musician in 1997, replacing the guitar with a saxophone at the same time.

Omega Massif & Mount Logan - Split

Omega Massif is an instrumental post-metal band from Würzburg, Germany and were formed in 2005 by Andreas Schmittfull (guitar), Michael Melchers (guitar), Boris Bilic (bass) and Christof Rath (drums). They recorded their demo “Kalt” in 2005 and began playing shows with bands like Knut, Taint and Tephra among others.

In 2007, Omega Massif released their first full-length album “Geisterstadt” (which means “Ghost Town” in German). The album weaves a tale of ancient abandoned silver mines, treks through deep mountain tunnels, and forsaken boom towns illustrated through Omega Massif’s massive instrumental post-metal. The vocaless nature of the music turns the focus on pure atmosphere, and Omega Massif deliver, layering the pulverizing repetitive metalchug with a sense of gloom and longing that becomes near-suffocating at times, but there are also lots of gorgeous ethereal melodies throughout.

Smashed Ruins - Silence

Based on a more that ten years old friendship between guitarist Tobias T. and drummer Sven K., at the beginning of 2008 the first common activities started and the band were officially founded. Together means already in 2005 a sound carreer without any name and titel made of Tobias T. was released through the former music label “Wäldliche Tonschmiede” of Sven K., which was used as a draft and inspiration for the cooperated project Smashed Ruins. This record was originally offered with computerized drums and a more easier to the situation at this time leveled sound quality. The final reason for new and together song writings and band activities were the positive reviews and customer feedback about the untitled release as well as the bands own belief of the quality and uniqueness of the songs and their atmospheric effect. Because of new possibilities both in audio engeneering and musical development, at the beginning of 2008 Smashed Ruins decided to work on new songs, first in the rehearsal room and after this in the recording studio. The results are the II. - and V. - chapter of their actual debut album. The remaining included chapters are re-recordings of the original untitled release with little changed guitar- and drum patterns.

Goals: As well as on the untitled release of 2005, which contains a statement of Tobias T. about the nowadays metal culture and its commercial and brashly impertinent presentation of some bands, the biggest goal is still to create a musical dimension persisting pure atmosphere. To take an effect the songs of Smashed Ruins also still don’t need any lyrical outpourings, great learnings or other idle talk. Rather experiments have shown that fixed lyrics and vocal parts destroy the music and its atmosphere completely and would deviates from the basics, even the guitar playing. Instead of this, Smashed Ruins decided for selective insert parts of words and screams to give the last needed tweak to the music.
