Warning - Discography

Warning was a band formed in Harlow, Essex (England, UK).

The band was formed in 1994 by Patrick Walker and Stuart Springthorpe. They were notable for their downtempo, progressive, melodic, heavy and doom-laden sound; the idiosyncratic and poignant vocals of Patrick Walker; and his introspective, darkly confessional lyrical themes.

The band released two demo tapes, Revelation Looms in February 1996 and Blessed By The Sabbath in March 1997 which led them to gain underground metal press attention and label interest.

Warning’s debut album The Strength To Dream was released in 1999 via The Miskatonic Foundation (owned and run by Richard M. Walker of Solstice). With this album Warning gained a cult status within doom metal circles, but they soon disbanded after their 2001 European tour with Jack Frost. They regrouped in 2004 to write new songs and to perform at The Doom Shall Rise festival (Germany) in 2005, and released a second album Watching From A Distance (also via The Miskatonic Foundation) in 2006 to wide acclaim.

Both albums were re-issued on CD in 2008 by the label Cyclone Empire, The Strength To Dream being re-packaged in new sleeve artwork. Similarly the albums were released by the Metal Supremacy label as gatefold double-vinyl editions limited to 500 copies each, 125 of each pressed on coloured vinyl.

Candlemass - Discography

Candlemass is a band formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 1984. Candlemass arose from the earlier Nemesis outfit belonging to bassist Leif Edling and guitarist Christian Weberyd. Prior to the dissolvement of the group, Nemesis had released the highly praised ‘Day Of Retribution’ album in 1984. Debuting Candlemass on the tape trading circuit with the four song ‘Witchcraft’ demo in 1984, featuring a line-up of Edling, Weberyd and drummer Mats Ekström, and a second demo that November, the band promptly signed to the French Black Dragon label. Having added former A.T.C. guitarist Mats Björkman (a.k.a. ‘Mappe’) the band began recording what would become the ‘Epicus, Doomicus, Metallicus’ debut at Thunderload Studios with Ragne Wahlquist, frontman for Heavy Load, manning the desk.

Count Raven - Discography

Of the several Black Sabbath-inspired bands on the Hellhound label, Sweden’s Count Raven, founded in 1987, was probably the most representative of the classic sound for which Hellhound was renowned. The band comes dangerously close to cloning (especially with the vocals being very Ozzy Osbourne-like) but in general the songs are strong enough to overlook this. After four albums (all pretty similar in style), a deteriorating working relationship between founder Dan Fondelius (vocals, guitar) and the other two members, Tommy Erikkson (bass) and Christer Pettersson (drums) forced the band to fold in March of 1999. Fondelius went on to form a new band by the name of Doomsday Government. All of their albums have been re-issued by Cyclone Empire Records in 2006.

After the reunion in 2004 the trio split again two years later, so Dan Fondelius hired Jens Bock (drums) and Fredrik Jansson (bass).

Pagan Altar - Discography

Pagan Altar is a band formed in 1978 in Brockley, England. Alongside Witchfinder General, they are one of the few “NWOBHM” bands to play doom metal. Although they were ignored by mainstream metal media during the early and mid 80s, their influence did not emerge until after the 80s incarnation had broken up.
Their gigs were characterized by moody, epic and heavy music interpreted with highly visual stage aspect which accented their interest for occult themes. Pagan Altar’s only release from that era was independent, self-released, self-titled album which was in later years often bootlegged. It was finally officially re-released on Oracle Records in 1998 and titled “Volume 1”.

In 2004, Pagan Altar reunited, re-recorded and released their previously unfinished second album, “Lords of Hypocrisy. These songs date back to the first 1980s incarnation. Also in 2004, “The Time Lord EP” was released, which contains recordings that date back to the band’s inception in 1978.

Their third album, “Mythical & Magical” was released in late 2006 and features a considerable amount of material that also date back prior to the 1982 release.

Pentagram - Discography

Originating from Arlington, Virginia, United States of America, one of the earliest bands around, having been around in one form or another since 1971, it’s safe to say that Pentagram had a big impact on Sabbath inspired that was to follow over the next decade. The band also strongly intertwines with the band Bedemon and is sometimes seen as one and the same. Pentagram are considered to be one of the all time classics by many older fans for understandable reasons. Their music can perhaps best be described as “proto-Doom” with a strong resemblance to the first Black Sabbath releases. The unique vocals of Bobby Leibling make sure they have a very unique sound. The first 7” was released under the name Macabre - guitarist Victor Griffin now has a new band called Place of Skulls. - the 1974 7” EP was never officially released and was only released in 100 copies on a test pressing.

Trouble - Discography

Trouble was formed in Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1979 by vocalist Eric Wagner, guitarists Bruce Franklin and Rick Wartell, bassist Sean McAllister, and drummer Jeff Olson. Drawing deeply from Black Sabbath for inspiration (with occasional nods to the sounds of the late ’60s thrown in for good measure), the band forged an uncompromising brand of classic all their own, made more unique by their gloomy down-tuned riffs and spiritual, often mistakenly religious lyrics, which quickly earned them the dubious “white metal” tag although Eric Wagner denies any connections to christianity. The album and songtitle Run To The Light was thought to be a religious title while it actually came from Eric Wagner watching Poltergeist and writing it down.
