1. Seasons
Ocean Of Ghosts was created in the fall of 2008 and comes from the mind, mouth, and fingertips of Forrest Cutrer. Based in Tempe, Arizona, Ocean Of Ghosts traverses the sonic landscape and enters a world where sound and physical being exist as one tangible entity.
The first album, “Life In The Desert,” is a half-hour long single track, stretching across noise, ambient, drone, and doom metal, invoking the mind-numbing depression of burning to death in a hell on Earth. A firm believer in the freedom of music, Forrest has taken to placing burned copies of this album in various spots for free around town, and offers to send a free copy to anyone who asks for one via the Ocean Of Ghosts Myspace page.

Rotterdam’s Rutger Zuydervelt has previously worked with Peter Broderick on the Machinefabriek 3”CD Huis, although for this collaboration there’s a more even distribution of work. Zuydervelt’s heavily processed drone-weaving is countered by luscious acoustic instrumentation, but importantly, none of it feels tacked on, and these two prolific artists make a good job of integrating their respective approaches. It’s actually a very natural collaboration: while Machinefabriek often converges on the classical and cinematic, Broderick’s instrumental music is rendered with a discerning producer’s ear. After an introductory splash of droning atmospherics on ‘Departure’, the follow-up track, ‘Planes’ takes on a more classical sound, featuring Broderick’s urgent, Philip Glass-like piano riffing and a wordless, hummed vocal that gels into the swirling Zuydervelt soundscape. Possibly the finest piece on the whole set, ‘Kites’ operates in a similar fashion, with loose, impressionistic key-work and distant strings melting seamlessly into an electroacoustic sonic environment. It’s like a hallucinated symphony orchestra drifting across airwaves before slowly disintegrating into bad reception by the piece’s oddly poignant end. Marking a slight change in direction, ‘Rain’ features vocals (a duet between Peter and Susanna Lundgren) and acoustic guitar while contact-miced rainfall forms the basis of a backdrop. An altogether more experimental, radio-based sound collage, ‘Blank Grey’ is predominantly electronic and relatively severe, using acoustic instruments as a brooding, mysterious background while cut-up speech fragments and broadcast signals populate the mix.

Monkey 3 - Monkey3 are a “Psyco-stoner” band from Switzerland.
They began to play music together just as a jamming community in 2001. The stoner-vibe of music fastly was the one to play by everybody because of all their musical intentions.
The band is formed as a quartet, Picasso - Bass, Walter - Drums, Boris - Guitar and dB - Keys.
In 2004 they released their first selftitled album. A great instrumental release that was and still is widely appreciated. They performed on different stages through Europe (as headliner and support for SNO, Honcho, Sparzanza, Hypnos69, Ozric Tentacles, Colour Haze, etc, … and on festivals like Buzzfest and Stoned from the Underground).

Yes, another Swedish 70’s inspired hard rock band! I guess Sweden ranks no. 1 in the world when it comes to this genre. Horisont picks up where Witchcraft and Graveyard laid down the cornerstones and they are out on Crusher Records who also nurses Dead Man. So if you’re a sucker for music inspired by Pentagram, Blue Cheer and what not … and you dig denim and long haired guys this is a kick ass record. Horisont is all about blues rock and boogie with heavy riffing and long guitar solos. But also more Sabbath’ish inspiration may be heard in “The Unseen” which gives you everything from doomy atmosphere and slow riffing to beauty parts with killer vocal. Half the songs are with Swedish lyrics giving a cool feel to the songs and “Du Röde” is an ultra slow and emotional track giving you the special Swedish touch also known from a band like Svarta Pan. Killer new band!
If you dig: Witchcraft, Graveyard, Dead Man

Karma to Burn is an American instrumental stoner rock band. The band was formed in 1994, in Hicksville, WV (actually Morgantown, WV, though this was a running joke also reflected in bios of the band on other Web sites).
Their instrumental album Almost Heathen is widely regarded as on par Kyuss’ Welcome To Sky Valley and Monster Magnet’s Spine of God, as one of the defining albums of the stoner rock genre, although the band themselves referred to their style as malternative.
The band was renown for their live performances and former Kyuss singer John Garcia was a big fan and even tried to sing with the band, however this didn’t bear much fruit as he did not have the time to become a full-time member and Karma to Burn itself wasn’t sure his voice fitted in their music.
Karma To Burn refused to give their songs ordinary titles, instead referring to them by numbers, which allegedly made it easier for a dyslexic band member to read setlists.
The group quietly disbanded in 2002 after bassist Rich Mullins left to play full time in Speedealer.
The band reformed in 2009.

Alcest
Formed in 1999 by French black metal multi-instrumentalist Neige (who also worked with Peste Noire, Mortifera, and Amesoeurs), Alcest was originally conceived as a solo project. It would eventually take on the form of a full band as Hegnor (also of Peste Noire) and Arguth joined the fray and released a four-track demo entitled Tristesse Hivernale in 1999. This demo was a more straightforward black metal affair, much different from what would happen next. After that released, Alcest returned to a one-member format, with Neige moving away from the metal overtones of the three-piece and embracing a more atmospheric approach to his work. The 2005 EP release, Le Secret, was more in tune with the project`s ultimate goal, which was to put to ear, as it were, Neige`s fascination with an “otherworld” — of sorts — that had held a fascination for him beginning in his childhood. In 2007, Neige released the first full-length Alcest recording, Souvenirs D`un Autre Monde (Memories of Another World, for those keeping up in English), which was released on Prophecy Productions, and was a critical success. 2007 also saw a split-EP release with Angmar.
Les Discrets

Several songs have been made available on the Les Discrets myspace page, but there have been no releases.
The debut release (E.P.) was expected to be released by UK label Todestrieb Records but the deal is cancelled for another label.
Los Natas propose a journey made of basic elements: valvular equipment and vintage instruments, they incorporate the use of the senses and perception of the listener as a part of a sonic trip. They make music that changes constantly, supported by long jams that give them a different meaning every time they execute them having that way a sense of freedom in the way of interpreting the sounds, making this experience extremely related to the sensations that both the musicians and the audience receive every time a show begins.
Since 1998, the music industry noticed the existence of bands with this musical influences spread around the globe. The scene was growing with the edition of CDs and vinyls emerging as a new culture under global codes: the same love for music and the sound. As an answer to the mainstream it began this new trend under the name of stoner rock. Nowadays the sound and music of Natas goes beyond this classification, with the incorporation of Argentine folk instruments and the creation of ambiance which makes the classification of the band in one genre very difficult.
Los Natas toured around the United States (1998/99/00), Europe (2003/04) where they shared stages with important bands of the genre such as Queens Of The Stone Age, Nebula, Men Of Porn, Unida, Dozer, Circle, Colour Haze, Brant Bjork & His Bros., among others. They have been doing a bunch of theme oriented gigs/festival that where created by them called Viernes Verdes (Green Fridays) that has had 10 editions so far and it takes place in Buenos Aires’s main theaters

Eyehategod (also abbreviated and referred to as EHG) is an American sludge band from New Orleans, Louisiana who are known for their dark, sludgy riffs combined with equally dark lyrics. Like many sludge metal bands, Eyehategod draw on both stoner rock / doom metal influences as well as hardcore punk. Formed in 1988.
Eyehategod have noted Melvins, Black Flag, Saint Vitus and Black Sabbath as key influences to their sound. This, combined with heavy, detuned, and bluesy riffs dominate the band’s sound. They are combined with walls of feedback and distinctive tortured vocals to create a truly misanthropic vibe.
While Jimmy Bower was busy playing drums for Down, rather than sit on their laurels, the other 4 members of Eyehategod formed a side-project called Outlaw Order (abbreviated to OO%). The band released a limited edition 7” EP in 2003 called Legalize Crime, which has since been rereleased on CD with a bonus live track and is available through Eyehategod’s webstore. The criminal theme is apparently because at the time of formation, all 5 of the members were on probation, and have consistently been in trouble with the law. Marc Shultz is currently serving a prison sentence and so has been replaced by Justin Grisoli. The band have recorded their 13 track debut full-length and will release it sometime soon, they are “waiting for a label worth a fuck”.
