Arms and Sleepers & The American Dollar - From The Inland Sea

Arms and Sleepers is Max Lewis (Boston, MA) and Mirza Ramic (Portland, ME). The band was formed in 2006 and has since released a handful of albums and EPs. Arms and Sleepers have extensively toured North America, Europe, and the UK. Upcoming releases include “Matador” (2nd full-length) and “From The Inland Sea” (split with The American Dollar)

(from Last.fm)
Started by high school friends John Emanuele and Richard Cupolo from Queens, NY in 2005, The American Dollar creates cinematic, electronica-tinged instrumental rock. The duo fuses processed drums, spacious keyboards and powerful organ swells with electric guitar and bass, creating deep sonic textures while maintaining the passion and energy of a live band. The swirling soundscapes build and swell, punctuated by glitchy beats, breathing and expanding into crashing guitars and soaring leads: precisely constructed symphonies for a new era.

This is my favorite Arms and Sleepers release, a split with The American Dollar. Delicious Trip Hop with Ambient and Post-Rock influence and some nice Instrumental Post-Rock for you. Enjoy it!

Hooded Menace & Anima Morte - Split EP

Hooded Menace is a Doom/Death Metal band formed in Finland (Joensuu) in 2007.

It all started in June of 2007 when three doom/death -loving freaks got together to jam some Candlemass cover songs but using old school death metal style vocals instead. They were having so much fun that they decided to start writing their own material, very much influenced by the first Cathedral album, Winter, and Asphyx. They wanted to do play really doom-laden death metal that combined crushing and somber riffs with just a slight hint of melody that comes from their love for the early Candlemass albums from the 80’s.

The band continued to jam but still didn’t have a band name yet. The guitarist and vocalist Lasse (also known from the cult Finnish death metal band Phlegethon and death/grinders Vacant Coffin) was a big fan of the Blind Dead zombies from the classic 70’s Spanish horror series that included the films “Tombs of the Blind Dead”, “Return of the Evil Dead”, “Horror of the Zombies”, and “Night of the Seagulls”. The rotting, eyeless Templar knights who rode on horses and drank the blood of their victims had a big influence on the music. The name HOODED MENACE was chosen by Billy Nocera of Razorback Records and the band was now officially born!

Anima Morte is a progressive rock band coming from Sweden. It is a collaboration of four musicians: Fredrik Klingwall (a member of progressive metal act Loch Vostok, thrash/heavy-metal act Machinery and death metal band Flagellation), Daniel Cannerfelt (a member of death metal band Flagellation), Stefan Granberg and Teddy Mцller (the frontman of progressive metal band Loch Vostok, drummer of defunct progressive metal band Mayadome, a member of death metal act Flagellation, horror-thrashers F.K.Ь. and Danish power metal band Wuthering Heights). The band has a discography that apart from “Face the Sea of Darkness” includes one promo-CD and 7” vinyl both titled “Viva Morte!”. “Face the Sea of Darkness” is the first CD issued on American label Dead Beat Media, a sublabel of Razorback Records, focused on metal releases, inspired by horror and 70s.

Omega Massif - Kalt

Omega Massif is an instrumental post-metal band from Würzburg, Germany and were formed in 2005 by Andreas Schmittfull (guitar), Michael Melchers (guitar), Boris Bilic (bass) and Christof Rath (drums). They recorded their demo “Kalt” in 2005 and began playing shows with bands like Knut, Taint and Tephra among others.

In 2007, Omega Massif released their first full-length album “Geisterstadt” (which means “Ghost Town” in German). The album weaves a tale of ancient abandoned silver mines, treks through deep mountain tunnels, and forsaken boom towns illustrated through Omega Massif’s massive instrumental post-metal. The vocaless nature of the music turns the focus on pure atmosphere, and Omega Massif deliver, layering the pulverizing repetitive metalchug with a sense of gloom and longing that becomes near-suffocating at times, but there are also lots of gorgeous ethereal melodies throughout.

Smashed Ruins - Silence

Based on a more that ten years old friendship between guitarist Tobias T. and drummer Sven K., at the beginning of 2008 the first common activities started and the band were officially founded. Together means already in 2005 a sound carreer without any name and titel made of Tobias T. was released through the former music label “Wäldliche Tonschmiede” of Sven K., which was used as a draft and inspiration for the cooperated project Smashed Ruins. This record was originally offered with computerized drums and a more easier to the situation at this time leveled sound quality. The final reason for new and together song writings and band activities were the positive reviews and customer feedback about the untitled release as well as the bands own belief of the quality and uniqueness of the songs and their atmospheric effect. Because of new possibilities both in audio engeneering and musical development, at the beginning of 2008 Smashed Ruins decided to work on new songs, first in the rehearsal room and after this in the recording studio. The results are the II. - and V. - chapter of their actual debut album. The remaining included chapters are re-recordings of the original untitled release with little changed guitar- and drum patterns.

Goals: As well as on the untitled release of 2005, which contains a statement of Tobias T. about the nowadays metal culture and its commercial and brashly impertinent presentation of some bands, the biggest goal is still to create a musical dimension persisting pure atmosphere. To take an effect the songs of Smashed Ruins also still don’t need any lyrical outpourings, great learnings or other idle talk. Rather experiments have shown that fixed lyrics and vocal parts destroy the music and its atmosphere completely and would deviates from the basics, even the guitar playing. Instead of this, Smashed Ruins decided for selective insert parts of words and screams to give the last needed tweak to the music.

Don't Mess with Texas - Los Dias de Junio

“April 20th, 2009

Dear friends…

We wanted to let you all know that Don’t Mess With Texas disbanded. We decided to break up and stop functioning as a band. It just didn’t feel right anymore. It makes no sense to write sagas about the break up or about the band, we just want to thank everyone that helped us in any way, it was wonderful while it lasted. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. Sasha, Ozren, Slobich and Neven.”

Don't Mess with Texas - Don't Mess with Texas

DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS was formed in Zagreb, Croatia in January of 2004. After the break up of Radio Free Isaac (and prior to that the bands Nikad and Lunar), Neven, Ozren and Saša decided to form another band and wasted no time creating their own brand of instrumental and epic rock.
Contrary to the standard and usual routine, DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS stick to their own saying: you can’t beat guitar, bass, drums and piano.

(Taken from Last.fm)
A very great and mostly underrated instrumental / post rock band. Sadly the guys disbanded this spring. You could compare them to several post-rock bands like You.May.Die.In.The.Desert or a less heavier variation of Mogwai. Enjoy!
