Worship - Last CD Before Doomsday

One of the best known bands in the underground. Founded by “Fucked Up Mad” Max Varnier from France and Daniel “The Doommonger” from Germany in the late 1990’s, Worship entered the scene with their Last Tape Before Doomsday (MC 1999).

That album contained four songs of minimalistic slow doom metal, driven by the tortured vocals of Mad Max and the mournful guitar solo’s by The Doommonger. Several splits were released on vinyl after that.

Worship was put on ice after the tragic suicide of Max in 2001. But, in 2003, Daniel decided that Worship would go on, and preparations were made for the finishing of the second full length (DOOOM), which was released in 2007.

In 2004, two new members (Kuolema and Satachrist) joined the band, and new recordings were made, which led to the release of the split with Loss in 2005. Worship has played live several times in the autumn of 2005.

Warning - Discography

Warning was a band formed in Harlow, Essex (England, UK).

The band was formed in 1994 by Patrick Walker and Stuart Springthorpe. They were notable for their downtempo, progressive, melodic, heavy and doom-laden sound; the idiosyncratic and poignant vocals of Patrick Walker; and his introspective, darkly confessional lyrical themes.

The band released two demo tapes, Revelation Looms in February 1996 and Blessed By The Sabbath in March 1997 which led them to gain underground metal press attention and label interest.

Warning’s debut album The Strength To Dream was released in 1999 via The Miskatonic Foundation (owned and run by Richard M. Walker of Solstice). With this album Warning gained a cult status within doom metal circles, but they soon disbanded after their 2001 European tour with Jack Frost. They regrouped in 2004 to write new songs and to perform at The Doom Shall Rise festival (Germany) in 2005, and released a second album Watching From A Distance (also via The Miskatonic Foundation) in 2006 to wide acclaim.

Both albums were re-issued on CD in 2008 by the label Cyclone Empire, The Strength To Dream being re-packaged in new sleeve artwork. Similarly the albums were released by the Metal Supremacy label as gatefold double-vinyl editions limited to 500 copies each, 125 of each pressed on coloured vinyl.

Ataraxie - Anhédonie

After the split of his former black metal band, Reign of Evil, Jonathan decided to continue on his own and make a new band. Long time Doom-Metal fan, regretting the lack of Doom-Metal bands in France, he therefore chose to found Ataraxie, along with Clement, that already played with him in Reign Of Evil.

At the end of 2000, Jonathan and Clement met Pierre in Hellion Record’s shop, Rouen’s meeting place for all metalheads. Soon the rehearsal started. Also recruited at Hellion Record’s shop, Sylvain joined the band at the very beginning of 2001.

At that moment, Ataraxie sounded more like a black/death metal band with ‘doomy’ influences. The band even played some Reign Of Evil tunes, rearranged a more “doomier” way. After a few months of rehearsals, the band first hit the stage in April 2001, and yet received good reactions from the crowd.

Skepticism - Lead and Aether

Finland’s Skepticism is one of the pioneers of funeral doom metal. Combining painfully slow Doom/Death Metal styled riffs, solemn keyboards and sparse percussion with deep growling, boundaries were pushed once again.

The band uses four instruments: drums, played with felt beaters, keyboards with organ pedals, guitar, and vocals. With this, they create songs that are both within the range of contemporary doom metal in terms of heaviness and slowness, yet far beyond the range of others where atmosphere and sound is considered.

Besides the music, Skepticism purposefully create a mysterious and abstract atmosphere, in terms of lyrics, artwork, contact with the outside world, and performance.

Ablaze in Hatred - Discography

Ablaze In Hatred was born in the year 2004 (Helsinki, Finland).
Two friends Juhani Sanna and Mika Ikonen had a desire to create music, which was dark, slow and same time very heavy and atmospheric.

In the autumn 2004 Ablaze In Hatred began to write music for the first promo-release. Early 2005 the song material was ready to be recorded in a studio.

In the spring 2005 drummer Antti Hakkala (Searing Meadow)and bassist Miska Lehtivuori (Fall Of The Leafe) joined the band.

In august 2005 Ablaze In Hatred went to the studio to record their first promo-cd called ‘Closure of Life’.

The songs were recorded at the Noisecamp studios with producer Kari Nieminen. The result of that session was three songs over 20 minutes of slow and
gloomy death/doom with growling vocals.

September 2005 ‘Closure of Life (promo 2005)’ was released.
The release gained soon a very positive response in the scene.

In October 2005 the band signed a deal with Firebox Records and started to write/finish the material for the full-length album.
The debut album, titled as “Deceptive Awareness”, was recorded in June 2006 and it will be released in early October 2006. We are all doomed…

Doom:VS - Dead Words Speak

Johan Ericson is a multitalented musician and producer with a number of projects of his own. The most distinguished of these is Draconian; a gothic/doom act which Johan established in 1994. Johan started out as a drummer but soon expanded his field of capacity. From the profound elevation of this distinct mind calls also the spirit of Doom:vs; a project born from the idea of constructing something utterly dark in the unique field of doom metal, closer to bands such as Shape of Despair and Mourning Beloveth. Although his worship of bands like Pentagram (U.S.) and Trouble didn’t reflect on his plans this time.

(from Last.fm)

The Fall Of Every Season - From Below

The Fall Of Every Season is the main project of Norwegian artist and songwriter Marius Strand. From at first being an underground Internet-phenomenon in 2004, this band project arose as a doom metal force to be reckoned with when the debut album, From Below, was released in 2007. All instruments and vocals were handled by Strand, defining The Fall Of Every Season as a one-man-band. Apart from just being a melodic doom metal production, this album also featured acoustic guitars and an emphasis on dynamics between the brutal and the melancholic.

With the recording of a new album in 2009 entitled Amends, The Fall Of Every Season’s emphasis on the typical down-tempo repetitive riffing is less present, while the melodies and variations in riffs play an even more important part than before. In that sense, the band could now be categorized as more of a progressive metal band. The spirit of doom and melancholy is still very present in the atmosphere of the songs, though.
